Racedom Mazda RX8 MSD Smart Coils Ignition Kit (Red). Dear RX8 owner, remember to always disconnect the ignition coil when performing a compression test. Disconnect the ignition coil from the 5- or 4-pin connector. Racedom collects the best product to offer you the best solution that exists today for upgrading the ignition kit of all Mazda RX8 rotary engines.
We have adapted the spark plug cables to minimize power loss and electromagnetic interference. Each cable is tested and measured to avoid possible problems. The harness supplied with the kit is designed to deliver a high amount of current using high quality wires and a relay. The built-in fuse prevents any short circuit problems. The 4 MSD IGN-1A style ignition coils provide the strongest spark for the Renesis engine.
Finally, we offer optionally (ask for a better price) a coil bracket to mount this kit on the original ignition coil position. More spark energy than any other IGN-1A smart coil on the market for maximum fuel burn during the combustion sequence. Low power consumption means less strain on the electrical and charging system. Built-in igniter for compatibility with Holley EFI and many other aftermarket ECUs. Maximum operating voltage of 17 volts - for compatibility with both 12 volt and 16 volt electrical systems found in many performance/racing applications.
Same wiring layout as other IGN-1A coils for easy plug-in upgrades. Extended mounting holes allow direct replacement of IGN-1A coils and can be bolted in place of the factory LS 1/2/3/6/7 coils with 72 mm bolt spacing.

Ratio of turns: 69:1. TECH TIPS - DWELL SETTING. Note: To determine the correct dwell time setting, first determine the horsepower per cubic inch of the engine. For street cars under 1.5 horsepower per cubic inch, the dwell time should be set to 4.0 milliseconds. For cars exceeding 1.5 horsepower per cubic inch, the dwell time should be set to 4.5 milliseconds. For long-distance races such as road racing or off-road racing, the dwell time can be set to 5.0 milliseconds. For short duration races, such as drag racing, the dwell time can be set to 7.0 milliseconds. A: Coil trigger (0-5V signal).
Connects to the individual ECU EST outputs. EST A goes to cylinder 1, EST B to cylinder 2, etc. This uses a 5 volt signal to trigger the coil. B: Coil trigger (Ref Ground).
All ground connections can be brought together and connected to pin B14 ("EST Ground Output"). C: Ground to cylinder head. This ground must lead to the cylinder head to which the coil discharges. It is recommended to connect each cylinder bank together.
Do not make any other ground connections at this point. Recommended wire size is 16-18 gauge for each coil, then connect them with a single 10-12 gauge wire. This is a high current ground connection that should go to the battery or to a ground terminal connected directly to the battery.

Do not connect directly to the battery. It is recommended to connect to a 40 amp relay source. Again, use 16-18 gauge wire for each coil and then connect them with a single 10-12 gauge wire.

The conductor is wound extremely tightly around a special central core. So tight that over 40 feet of conductors are wrapped in a single foot of plug wire. This winding process combined with a ferromagnetically impregnated center core creates an extremely effective electromagnetic interference (EMI) "choke".
This choke or suppression capability keeps the EMI in the cable where it will not interfere with other electronics in your vehicle. The outer shell that surrounds the conductor assembly is equally impressive.
